FOREWARD
This booklet summarises the codes required to report locomotive maintenance, repairs and refuelling, together with the more commonly used codes required to interpret the coded information contained in responses to on-line enquiries and unsolicited messages. Some notes to assist in the use of codes are also included where appropriate. It is always important to remember the relationship between Operating Status (OPRSTA) , Regular Maintenance (RMAINT) , Reason Out of Service (REASOS) , and Work Done (WKDONE) . The Expected Release Time (EXPTIM) for locomotives undergoing maintenance must be as accurate as possible, particularly when within the next eight hours so that control can make plans to use the locomotive in revenue earning service and ensure that further work is made available for the depot. Full details of all TOPS codes can be found in the red TOPS Code Guide Manual and all input procedures are in the green TOPS Procedure Manual. This booklet will not be updated between issues, and any relevant changes or additions notified on the amendment sheets issued for the Code Guide or Procedure Manual should be entered by hand. Remember that the more care taken to prepare on-line inputs correctly, the more useful will be the information available to all those making enquiries. TOPS is a REAL-TIME system.

OPERATING STATUS CODES (OPRSTA)
Code Long Form Code and Description
A WAITG WORKS
Awaiting transfer to, or en route to, BREL Workshops awaiting start of work.
This code should not be entered until locomotive is accepted for works
attention by Regional Shopping Controller. Until accepted for works ,
OPRSTA code X should be used with REASOS code DEC.
D WTG MTCE/REP
At a TMD awaiting start of maintenance or repair work.
Do not revert to this code once maintenance has commenced, even if work
subsequently ceases.
F Failure
Failure or accident in traffic. Can be used whilst loco is still shown working
a train, but should be changed to OPRSTA T, D, or X as soon as possible.
M WAITG MATERL
Waiting material whilst undergoing maintenance or repair work at a TMD.
The REASOS code entered should indicate the material required, or if more
than one item, that which is likely to affect the expected release time
(EXPTIM).
N Serviceable or Normal Status.
Note ; A loco in this status may be subject to a Restricted working.
R TOBESCRAPPED

Also to be used to show transfer
from one TMD to another for
maintenance or repair.
A preassignment must be used with
this code to indicate the depot to
which the locomotive is to be
transferred.
U STORED U/S
Stored in an unserviceable condition.
This code can only be entered by
